Friday's Fancies

Happy friday everyone. I cannot believe a week has passed since the kids and I arrived in Australia. The weather has been miserable. We caught the tail end of winter and it's been a nonstop mix of rain and wind ever since. It does gives me a good excuse to wear all my new fall items that I probably won't get to otherwise. I can't wait to share more photos of this city with you once the weather warms up enough to venture out. Hope everyone had a great week and a great night out at FNO.

I love using ordinary objects in unexpected ways. Like this three tiered afternoon tea platter, it's the perfect way to display jewelry and nail polishes that I'm currently using.

This photo was taken the day before we left for Australia. You know it's time to migrate to warmer shores when the birds start leaving in flocks.

Catching up on my all time favourite magazine, Monocle. This is a great read for anyone interested in design, international affairs, culture and fashion. The July/August edition is particularly good as it ranks the top cities in the world. I do love reading about cities.

My first coffee back in Melbourne, Australia. Although the latte art is nothing spectacular, but after living in a place where the only coffee options are Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, this was heaven in a glass.

Three coloured manicures are perfect for days when the sky is grey and the air is chilly. I'm loving the combination of Essie Mink Muffs (taupe), with Essie Nothing Else Metals (chrome) and Essie Nice is Nice (lavender).

Beautiful captures! I love the photograph of the"migration season',"the perfect brew" and "the colored mani" the most. In fact, I love the composition of the "colored nmani" photograph very much ! I have never heard about the Moncle Magazine. Thanks for informing me. If I ever happen to see any of its issue in the bookstore/library, I will check it out as I love to read on topics such as design, culture, fashion, etc.etc.
In your reply to my latest post, you asked me a question. I would love to explain that but only briefly here- I am from a country which still follows and imposes traditional rules on woman. I was wearing traditional outfits for a long time-and only a year back, I started experimenting with western wear. Earlier, I had only one jeans and 2 Tee shirts in my wardrobe in the name of "western wear". That too, I wore at home.
I wore western wear mainly during my childhood years, as a small kid. But due to the traditional culture here, in College and University and also in hostels, women were debarred from wearing western outfits. The small town society where I lived and grew up in, also didn't approve of western wear. People used to pass rude remarks, tease and look down upon any woman who wore western wear. This continued for a long time and 2 years after I got married, I moved to a big city in another province with my husband {he was posted there} where western wear is common everyday wear. So,from then on, I started again wearing western wear because I love to wear it. I hope I was able to answer your question. Because it is a cultural thing and it is very difficult to explain these things. especially to a person from another culture..I hope you can understand. All of my country is not like this, but some parts are still traditional and I was born and brought up in a very traditional place. I did challenge the system but was never comfortable wearing what I really wanted to wear then. Now, I feel liberated and happy in my 2nd home, in my new city.
Have a beautiful weekend !

Love the idea of the accessories platter! I need to think about doing something like that. And I've never heard of that magazine (it looked like a book to me, at first), but it sounds very interesting! :)

Hopefully the weather starts getting a little better over there!

I feel exactly the same about the coffee... that first sip when you're back home is like a party in your mouth! I always drink an extra latte a day while I'm there to make up for all the bad coffee I drink in the US... hope you're having a wonderful time. I can't wait to see your photos!
