Wardrobe Diaries: Winter's Uniform

Ever since I arrived back from Australia earlier last month, it dawned on me how little of my closet actually gets used. The five months away forced me to become creative, mixing and matching the handful of clothing I had, while shopping trips became scavenger hunts for versatile pieces that could work in any outfit. The whole experience was surprisingly soothing, turns out we really don't need that  much at all.

This leads me to the outfit in this post. For the past month, this red duffle coat and leopard slippers have become my unoffical winter's uniform. I grab it when I'm running errands in a hurry just as much as when I'm dressed up for a lunch date. Leopard and red is not only a classic combination, but also neutral enough to work with just about anything. As part of my spring cleaning for this year, I'm planning to apply the same 'less is more' approach to the rest of my wardrobe. It's about time a makeover happened.

I'm interested to know if any of you have an unofficial winter's uniform? Do you sometimes find yourself wearing the same thing again and again?

{ wearing: madewell duffle coat . zara leather skirt similar here . kookai turtleneck similar here . florsheim leopard slippers also loving this . tory burch tote . brooks brothers gloves . necklace thanks to karen london }

Genius, you are so right those two work with everything and make all the rest look cool, the duffle coat is beyond cute! I do have a winter uniform, cords, booties and parka, seeing you I think I will have to add something more vibrant! Have a great week!

I rotate between 3 or 4 coats in the winter, but that's about as interesting as I get. It's just too cold to take any fashion risks in winter! I love your coat.

Oh this is gorgeous, no wonder it's a go-to!! I'm starting to realize the less is more approach works better too! My uniform is a pair of coated rag & bone skinnies with my Lims and a leather jacket :)

Lovely look! I spent a year in Australia and I was shocked at how I managed on such little clothing. I thought I'd be a minimalist when I returned... but eventually my closet became overfilled once again.

I miss certain clothing stores over there (Kookai, Sportsgirl, OneTeaspoon) and of course all the lovely jewelery at the markets!

I have a hard time with summer because I feel like it's just so hot that I basically want to wear nothing over and over again to stay cool!

I cant contribute to this post as I live in a city where it hardly hit below 15 during the winter! I normally have a jacket (whatever I can grab) over a tank and that'll do. Your uniform is pretty cool, the color, the comfort.. that's all that matters, right?

This coat looks so cute on you. Red is definitely your color! I pretty much have 1 coat that I wear all winter even though I have tons in my closet. And jeans. Jeans are a go-to because it's mindless and goes with everything!

I'm falling in love with your coat as I type! Wish the weather here would get cooler for a few months at least so we can start wearing cute coats too!

You are so right.. a few really amazing pieces can go such a long way..I am doing a closet makeover as well..much needed. I really don't have a daily uniform..I continually switch things up.
and btw..you definitely need a pair of white pumps..I am obsessed and realizing they make everything better!

I think Winter is the easiest season for me to get stuck in a rut during, but I have been trying to mix it up with more colorful items lately! I am definitely getting great inspiration from your pretty red coat!

I find myself repeating the same things over and over...it sometimes makes me feel like I have a closet full of wasted clothes. SOMETIMES, I feel the need to cleanse my closet of everything and start fresh with only a few basic pieces...I think I would find this less stressful. hah!
I love your red coat- I can definitely see why it's become a winter staple for you. And I have leopard flats that are almost identical.
