Wardrobe Diaries: Moto Into Spring

When I was a little girl I never quite understood the importance my mum placed on outerwear. At the time, wearing a jacket or coat over my little party dresses seemed to defeat the purpose of dressing up (and back then I was all about showing off my new dresses). One day I asked why she always insisted I wear them, especially when it was mid summer, and she knew I'd take it off immediately after our arrival?

Her answer was plain and simple- it just didn't look finished without one.

Even with her explanation I still didn't understand, but it obviously struck a chord (a very confused chord) within me because today, it's one of my most vivid memories from childhood. Yes folks, my mum had me doing the blogger jacket drape long before it was even a thing.

Since growing up, much has changed. My favourite piece of clothing nowadays IS in fact outerwear. I rarely leave home without some form of external layer, be it a jacket or coat or even just a scarf in summer. Throwing on that something extra immediately 'smarts' up an outfit and lends a certain sophistication don't you think?
So tell me readers, are you also an outwear addict?

Jenee, you are so sharp! I love those booties and your coat. Your mom was right. Outerwear makes everything more polished! She has exquisite taste. I always see it in you and the way you dress. Perfect!

You look SO gorgeous. This jacket is just perfection on you. I am actually the opposite of an outwear addict. I hate wearing it. The second it warms up here, I leave the jacket at home. I think it just makes me feel restricted! And plus, my mom also always wanted me to wear a jacket, but her response was quite different... "because I said so". Ha! :)

Lovely coat and those shoes really finish it all off. You always have such brilliant style. I love all the movement in your photo's.

I'm a huge fan of outer wear. I struggle to leave a shop empty handed when I see a nice coat!

Haha, I don't know if my mom was as articulate but she is crazy about outerwear as well - I only started to get it when I made my first big coat purchase last year! Unfortunately for outerwear, though, I live in a warm climate and so I never get to use anything much heavier than a cardigan.

ohhhh this coat is fantastic.

seriously - this is one killer piece of sartorial seduction. The crispness is alluring - but even more so is the contrast between the white and black.

Pairs well with your effortless beauty.

That's such a sweet story of your childhood and your mom spreading her fashion wisdom :) Haha, she's right! Layers just complete an outfit. I almost never leave the house without something on top be it a light kimono, jacket, or what-not, I always need a finishing touch.
Love this cool coat you're rocking too! Perfect for the black and white trend <3

I usually feel this way when it comes time to transition from spring to summer. I find myself wearing sweaters and jackets that make me hot as soon as I step out. I never put away my scarfs though. I have made an effort to find ones that can get me through the summer heat without looking crazy with a scarf on.

Um..I think I'm going to become an outerwear addict after seeing that coat on you! It's gorgeous!! I go through phases where I get addicted to buying coats but then end up returning them because I know they will go unworn. Scarves--I wear ALL the time!

Jenee! I agree with you 100%!!! My outfit does not feel complete without a jacket or blazer of some sort! Even in the summer! I love this look! That coat is fabulous and the shoes are awesome!

Yes I love my coats, but I am also very happy when it is just too damn warm for one. But you are right, a coat can make all the difference, think about Deneuve or Jackie O. Your coat is amazing, and I love your booties. And girl your wardrobe is no joke either!

You're such a darling in your coat. I can only relate to scarf my dear, but how I saw you and other bloggers who styles your coat in a sophisticate manner always makes me want to try having one. If only our climate agree.:)

LOLOL! I love that term - the blogger drape. I can't do it. It just slides right off. I'm with your mom about outerwear. I'm all about jackets and coats. It's the first thing I look at every season.
