Wardrobe Diaries: Alternative Holiday Colours

With Christmas less than a week away, I'm sure most of you at some point have pondered over what wardrobe choices you'll be making for the upcoming festivities. While nothing says Christmas quite like a kitschy red reindeer sweater or body skimming party dress, sometimes it's nice to break from conventions and just do your own thing. This year, antique gold and purple is my colour of choice. It's a nice departure from your usual sparkly sequined uniform and yet festive enough to still be appropriate. This outfit is perfect for any holiday luncheon. The loose fit shirt and skirt will easily conceal that food baby you've been carefully nurturing since the start of the month. And a structured military inspired jacket thrown over will redirect any glares thrown your way after one too many drinks. After all, we all know that being smashed is well beneath any lady sporting a polished faux Chanel jacket.

Thank you to those of you who still continue to visit {camo meets couture} despite my recent negligence to the blogosphere. This month has just been a blur of nonstop events that blogging has taken a backseat. I'm looking forward to the new year and the change of pace that it will bring. So stay with me folks, {camo meets couture} will be back to it's usual schedule sooner or later.

Wardrobe Diaries: Playing Favourites

If there's one item in my closet that I simply cannot live without, it's my humble turtleneck. In terms of versatility and comfort I'd say it's right up there with the white tee. In fact I'm even going to propose right now that we make this the official cold weather uniform. However unlike the ever popular white tee, the turtleneck gets a bad rap. It's pragmatic approach to dressing means it's rarely ever associated with being on-trend or fashionable. After all how many of the fashion world's most coveted items are also ever pragmatic (minus IM wedge sneakers)?

Whenever I wake up to a chilly morning, I automatically reach for my turtlenecks. It's one of those little wonders where after I've slipped into, I immediately feel 10x warmer and 10x more alive and ready to start the day. Kind of like that feeling when you sip piping hot soup on a cold winters day or jumping into a hot shower after a day in the rain. On a different note, how adorable is this leather skirt? The chiffon layer peeping out was too precious to pass up. Not to mention, the fact that being white leather means I literally could wear it all year long.

Wardrobe Diaries: The Schoolboy Blazer

Confession time, I adore everything about schoolboy blazers, from their fit and fabric to their little gold buttons and accentuated shoulders. Unlike other blazers what's so great about the schoolboy type is how easily they transition from casual wear to business wear. I threw on some fun coloured pumps to break up an otherwise tonal look. Please tell me I'm not the only one who matches my lips to my shoes.

Perfect fit aside, these blazers also take me back to my school years where I was stuck wearing a navy wool Ralph Laurenesque schoolboy blazer (more Harry Potter than Gossip Girl) everyday for the entire 6 years of my secondary education. At the time I couldn't wait to break free of my stuffy uniform. Who knew years later I'd still be wearing the same thing. This leads me to wonder.. will I still be wearing skinny jeans when I'm 80? I'm sure I'll be gaunt and sickly enough to pull them off a la Alexa Chung.

Wardrobe Diaries: Borrowed from the boys

I am definitely feeling the love lately. First a feature on my favourite read, Chocolate Cookies & Candies then a guest appearance on Trust your Style and now the ever lovely Kristen from C'est si bon. has asked me to guest blog for her. This lovely lady needs no introduction, even fashion's "it girl" Miss Olivia Palmero was caught visiting her blog recently. So come stop by sometime and hear me ramble on about the art of getting dressed

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the continued support. Your comments and visits mean the world to me and are what makes blogging so rewarding.

Wardrobe Diaries: Spring Meets Fall

I am still coming to terms with the fact that I miss out on Fall this year. If you've been following my blog then you may remember me mentioning summer fashion fatigue from as earlier as June. They don't call Fall, fashion's favourite season for nothing. All those layers and outerwear, knits, furs and leathers are enough to make any girl swoon.

Sadly for me, I left the Northern Hemisphere a few days before the end of summer and arrived here in the Southern Hemisphere just as spring picked up. Instead of abandoning all my newly acquired cold weather wear, I decided to bring them along with me to style into my spring wardrobe. The classic spring colour combo of mint and blush contrast perfectly with edgier leather pieces from Fall. Add to that some red lipstick and a velvet bow and there you have my perfect spring meets fall outfit.

A big thank you to Boticca for sending me this beautiful leather clutch. When it comes to fashion and design, there's nothing I love more than discovering new talented up and coming designers. Through their online shop, Boticca gives me the chance to scour the world for beautiful unique pieces with the knowledge that each purchases will help aid an independant designer to be one step closer to their dream. Now for the fun part, make sure you pop by on friday for a chance to win a beautiful bracelet by french designer Mademoiselle Felee courtesy of Boticca

Wardrobe Diaries: Silver Accents

As much as I love gold jewelry, sometimes it's nice to take a break and wear head to toe neutrals. I'm really loving silver accents for fall this year. The sweethearts at Karen London sent over this gorgeous hammered silver collar and I may or may not have been wearing it religiously ever since I got it.

Actually neutrals and I go way back. There was a time when all I'd wear were shades of grey and black and white. Architects are known for dressing head to toe in black. Being the young eager Architecture student that I was, I didn't want to upset the stereotype. These days I'm much more open to different styles and shades. Though neutrals will always have a special place in my heart, there's also a little room for brights.

Wardrobe Diaries: Beige and Black

I love wearing simple ensembles in interesting textures. Textures play a big part in my personal aesthetics and it reaches into all aspects of my life, from household decor to architectural design to fashion. It's just such a great way to add interest to an outfit without attracting too much attention. Whenever I see a simple piece made in an interesting texture I can pretty much guarantee that it will end up in my wardrobe. For instance, this blazer. I love how it takes the classic two-toned blazer and gives it a completely different feel in chiffon. To contrast the delicate nature of the jacket, I paired it with these coated black skinnies. The ankle zips add just the right amount of edge to the overall outfit. To keep things from looking too matchy matchy, I finished off the outfit with a tweed and sequin bag.

Now if you break this outfit down once more, it just comes apart as a simple ensemble of jeans, t-shirt, and blazer.

Friday's Fancies

Happy friday everybody, I cannot believe we are halfway through the year already. In another two months my little one is going to graduate from being a baby into a toddler! First birthdays are always extra special so needless to say I have started collecting party inspirations already. I will be sure to share all the celebratory photos when the time comes. Here's a look at a few things we got up to this week.

Painting my nails to match my jewelry

Started a new tradition this week of taking a mandatory tea break. A mother always puts the needs of others before her own. Tea time equals me time.

What better time to stock up than during sale week. I've already surpassed my quota for frivolous spending this week but couldn't pass up the sweet deals over at Zara on kiddie clothes. I picked up a cute little trench coat and chambray summer pea coat for my little lady.

Since we do not have a puppy, Miss Mini Me did not want to miss out on the fun of feeding unwanted food to a family pet so has started to fed her toys instead.

First time at the cinema and we didn't even make it to our seats! We ended up sitting on the bench  eating popcorn for a good 15 minutes. It was a great day.
