Wardrobe Diaries: Plain White Tee

This weekend has been such a scorcher that all I've wanted to do is wear loose fitting cotton clothing. My trusty Paul and Joe white tee dress seemed the perfect solution, but for the sake of my blog proved a challenge to style. It's so much easier to create interesting pieces when the weather is cooler (notice the numerous celeb bloggers based in San Francisco?).

I decided to keep things simple and threw on my string of pearls layered with my lariat pearl necklace. I love fine jewelry and always try to incorporate them into my daily looks. Costume jewelry will only get you so far before it starts to tarnish and look outdated. Interesting story behind these two necklaces, the string of pearls I received as a wedding present from my aunt and the lariat necklace my mum designed herself and had specially made up for me.

I love this tee dress, it's so comfortable and the delicate lace sleeves are a beautiful touch. I have one in heather grey along with this white one. Since it has such a boyish shape, I often have problems with it looking like I'm wearing my PJs. I threw on a black slip underneath the white tee and some chunky wedges to edge things up a bit. What do you think? Does this tee dress still look pyjama-ish after all my accessorising?

Wardrobe Diaries: Pleats, Collars and a Haiku

I cannot believe summer only officially began today. Is it just me or does summer feel particularly long this year? Perhaps it has something to do with the constant 90+ degree weather we've been having for the past month. The best thing about summer in Tennessee are the fireflies that come out at dusk. Before I moved here I only ever read about them in children's books. They really are as enchanting as how I had imagined them to be.

Since I've been wearing my summer wardrobe for the past two months I'm definitely beginning to feel the fashion fatigue. Do you ever experience that? Where everything in stores start to blur together and look the same. Nothing feels inspiring or exciting anymore. So instead of dressing in my usual summery garb I decided to take a break from all the florals and pastels and maxis and opted for a beige and black ensemble.

How did you like my haiku in the photo above? It's a little hobby of mine, one day I will master the art and speak only in haiku all day.

Wardrobe Diaries: Coral and Cognac

I love visiting the playground with my girls and this weekend they had the pleasure of having dad there  with them. It's not often we get to visit the playground as a family and on rare occasions that we do, it makes it all the more special. Actually being a soldier, my husband isn't around for much of anything. He's missed both my pregnancies and the first three months of life for both daughters. He's missed our older daughter's first birthday and he'll probably miss our second daughter's too. We've been together now for six years and he hasn't been home once for his own birthday. He works 15 hour days, seven days a week when he's deployed and when Stateside he gets up at 5am everyday no complaints. I am constantly amazed by the dedication of all soldiers and the strength of their family.

This outfit was perfect for chasing after the kids. It's bright and cheery, comfortable and lightweight, and best of all, machine washable! See previous post with these coral shorts here and lace top here. I've been searching for a pair of sandals like these since forever. I couldn't believe my luck when I found a pair sitting on the shelf at T.J. Maxx and in my size too! The ankle strap is in a clever light tan colour so visually it doesn't slice your leg in half. Best thing is, I only paid $15 for them.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. xx

Wardrobe Diaries: Lilac Leather and Lace

I came across this beautiful train track on the way to brunch the other day. It made for the perfect backdrop to my outfit. Tennessee is so beautiful in the summertime with its abundant trees and greenery. My sister likens this place to a scene out of Twilight (funny). These tracks are used by the Army for transporting equipment and such, which is probably why I've never seen a single train in the three years we have lived here. I recently bought myself this leather jacket from Muubaa as a mother's day present. The leather on this jacket is buttery soft and so comfortable to wear. The thing I love most is the sculpting wire that's been inserted in the seams. This clever little trick allows you to manipulate the jacket however way you want, something rather difficult when it comes to leather.
