Wardrobe Diaries: Fine Feathered Threads

In an ideal world this is what I would wear everyday- a fabulous frock, beautiful baubles, towering heels and a cozy knit casually thrown over. My very own rendition of Breakfast At Tiffany's. If there's one thing I took away from that film it's that there are no rules in fashion. Who says you can't wear evening wear to the grocery store or lingerie at the park? I wore this outfit for no particular occasion and that's what I love most about it. Some days you just need a little glamour in your life.

Wardrobe Diaries: The Art of Travel

Something you probably don't know about me is that I have an unhealthy obsession with anything related to the art of travel. This probably stems from the constant state of wanderlust that plagues me. I can spend hours pouring over atlases and travel guides, google earth and I are on first name basis. If I had my way my house would be filled with antique globes and world maps. But I digress.

I'm always curious as to what other people wear on planes. So much thought has to go into that one outfit. In an ideal world I would love to dress up like they once did during the 'golden' age of travel, but since I have two little monkeys it really isn't practical (or comfortable). My solution for long international flights- abundant layers for warmth, a rugged jacket to withstand the wear and tear from the kids, comfy but chic sweatpants, a large versatile scarf, some killer boots, sunnies and an oversized tote. These photos were taken right before the kids and I departed for Melbourne, Australia.

Wardrobe Diaries: Khaki Florals

When I dabbled in graphics design a few years ago, the first and most important lesson I learnt was to always design in black and white. The reason was simple, most companies print in black and white ink so your logo must first work in black and white before it can work in colour. I think the same rule of thumb applies to fashion. For me, it's all about the silhouette. A good silhouette is the foundation for other embellishments. The right proportions is to fashion what black and white is to graphics.

One of my favourite designers is Alexander McQueen. I love the attention to detail each outfit is given, I love the juxtaposition of hard vs soft elements but most of all, I love McQueen's silhouettes. If you stripped each design back to it's original muslin mould I bet you'd still be able to wear it out and look fabulous, though you may get some strange stares. This outfit is inspired by the McQueen silhouette. What do you think?

Wardrobe Diaries: Downtown Weekender

One of the things I miss most living in small town USA is the ability to walk to places. Where I live there are no pavements, shops are broken up and scattered along the highway. Boutique stores and cafes are pretty much nonexistent, and lunch via the drive thru seems to be the norm. There's no denying it, I do miss city life. In my previous life, walking made up a big chunk of my day. Back then it never occurred to me there were places in the world where pedestrians were viewed as being either odd or homeless. I guess when cities are built to revolve around cars then the loss of street life really shouldn't come as a surprise. This lovely dress by Judith March I recently purchased from Couture Crush, one of a small handful of boutique stores that exist in our town. The crochet overlay and lovely mustard colour gives it a summery bohemian vibe perfect for a relaxed weekend about town.
