Wardrobe Diaries: Weekend Sweat Suits

If you've followed this blog for sometime then you probably know by now my fascination with all things loungewear- sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirt dresses and so on. The truth is, despite all better judgement, there's just something about loungewear that I unexplainably love. For the sake of this outfit post I've decided it's about time I pinned down the root of this bizarre infatuation and in doing so, hopefully help others realize and understand their own love affair with what is sometimes perceived as a crime against fashion.

After spending a questionable amount of time in the shower (that's where all brilliant ideas originate right?) what I've come to realise is aesthetics and comfort only play a minor role in my love affair. A great pair of jeans is just as comfortable and much better looking so that can't be it. What I've ultimately realised is, it's the message one sends when wearing sweats that makes me love them so much. That easy effortless, I-couldn't-care-less-what-you-think-because-I'm-comfortable-in-my-own-skin appeal. We always associate loungewear with a carefree and laid back attitude and I think in this crazy day and age it's nice to be able to wear something that doesn't take itself too seriously.

But enough of me trying to be philosophical. I chanced upon this sweatshirt and sweatpant combo one day when I wasn't even meant to be shopping. The strategic colourblocking, flirty peplum waist and contrasting drawstring was just too pretty to pass up. It seems like all these years of loungewear idolising has finally lead me to serendipitously find the perfect sweat-suit (yay).

So tell me dear readers, are there certain items you love despite all better judgement?

Wardrobe Diaries: Put a Bow On It

These days I find myself leaning more and more towards easy fuss-free wear. While I love pretty dresses and multiple layers as much as the next girl, in reality most days I'm lucky if I have time to brush my hair in the mornings. Is it just me or has the busy season hit most of the world? These boyfriend jeans have been in constant rotation lately and for good reason. They're comfortable, pairs well with almost everything in my closet and I love the way they contrast with a fabulous pair of shoes. Even my baby girl loves them, although for very different reasons. She loves to stick her arms into the holes and pat my knees, hence the extra large distressing. Being St. Patty's Day this past Sunday, I just wasn't in the mood for dressing up in a leprechaun green costumey outfit. So instead I resorted to a simple white shirt and jeans ensemble accented by a brilliant green Hermes scarf tied into a pretty little bow. Sometimes a small dose of colour is just what you need.

Wardrobe Diaries: Jewel Tones

Taking my wardrobe inspiration today from the beautiful jewel tones littered all over the A/W catwalks and adapting them to casual warm weathered wear. A silky shirt in a loose fit paired with distressed boyfriend jeans was just what I needed for a lazy day in the sun. Add to that a fabulous pair of pumps and a structured ladylike bag to keep from looking too sloppy. When it comes to colour pairings, I'm a big believer in taking cues from nature. After all, when has mother nature ever gotten anything wrong (well, besides the ice age of course and sloths, those creatures are just plain weird). Blue and green is my all-time favourite nature inspired colour combo. The two colours together just scream a sunny day in the park. Don't you agree?

Wardrobe Diaries: Easy Weekend Wear

Now that the weather's warmed up considerably it means more impromptu getaways and outings are in order. Like this past weekend which consisted of a spontaneous brunch at my favourite eatery in nearby wine country. I packed the kids into the car and off we went zooming through vast country roads flanked by luscious green fields as far as the eye could see while the sun happily shone on uninterrupted.

That's what I love about Melbourne Australia, because of it's relatively compact nature you are never too far from anything. One hour in one direction and you'll find yourself in wine country, one hour the other direction and you're on the coast of the big blue pacific. And if nature isn't your thing, then the hustle and bustle of the city center is always just a quick trip down the freeway. It really is the quintessential ski and surf all in the same day kind of place.

I know I'm going to miss these little trips when I return to Tennessee. The closest ocean is a mere 10 hours away not to mention it will be the height of winter. Suppose I'll just have to make the most of these next two months while I'm down under. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Wardrobe Diaries: The Art of Travel

Something you probably don't know about me is that I have an unhealthy obsession with anything related to the art of travel. This probably stems from the constant state of wanderlust that plagues me. I can spend hours pouring over atlases and travel guides, google earth and I are on first name basis. If I had my way my house would be filled with antique globes and world maps. But I digress.

I'm always curious as to what other people wear on planes. So much thought has to go into that one outfit. In an ideal world I would love to dress up like they once did during the 'golden' age of travel, but since I have two little monkeys it really isn't practical (or comfortable). My solution for long international flights- abundant layers for warmth, a rugged jacket to withstand the wear and tear from the kids, comfy but chic sweatpants, a large versatile scarf, some killer boots, sunnies and an oversized tote. These photos were taken right before the kids and I departed for Melbourne, Australia.

Wardrobe Diaries: Colour Me Coral

Shirt, shorts, fedora, flats and a luxe baby bag make the perfect ensemble for the Battalion picnic at husband's work. I love the look of a wide brim fedora, it's a little more feminine and actually keeps the sun out (mind-blowing). This outfit conjures up images of driving through Europe in a little convertible (cue in road trip scene from Only You) all I'm missing is the silk scarf fluttering in the wind.
