Friday's Fancies: Things that make me smile

Happy friday, I hope your first full week of the year has been off to a great start. The girls and I are settling nicely back home in Tennessee. While I don't have as many beautiful scenic snaps like what I had in Australia, here's a look at a few things that are making me smile this friday.

New take on old nursery rhymes. This book exposes toddlers and the like to the wonders of Louboutins, Nobu, Bolly, Krug and Premier Cru. Pretty sure this book is going to come back and bite me in the butt. My favourite rhyme from the book- 'Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been? I've been to London to visit McQueen. Pussycat, pussycat, what did you there? I bought the collection and kissed lots of air.'

A whimsical neon bow bracelet I chanced upon at a boutique store by the sea. It's finding little gems like this in unexpected places that brighten my day.

While Pockys (those Japanese choc dipped cookies on a stick) and I go way back, I've only recently discovered how even more delicious they become when dipped in milk. The only downside is wrestling over them with the kids.

Subdued with a tinge of colour, this winter I'm all about nails that look polished and refined. I recently picked up these Essie colours for my sister. The dark wine is a nice departure from your usual bold red lacquers.

Imagine my delight when I came across these ready made box mix macarons at the supermarket!  For anyone who has ever attempted to bake these tiny delights from scratch, you'll know how difficult and frustrating they can be. The evil genius of Adriano Zumbo has taken all the guess work out of macaron making so you can spend less time worrying baking and more time eating. See what I mean about evil?

Friday's Fancies

Before I started blogging I rarely ever took my DSLR out with me. The only times I could justify lugging the heavy black device around was if I were on holiday or at a special event. These days I am rarely ever an arm's reach from my trusty camera. Thus is the beauty of blogging, it has forced me to rethink how I go about my day. I hope you're enjoying my friday's fancies series as much as I enjoy putting them together. Here are some fun snaps from this week. Enjoy!

Wearing breton stripes with red lacquer nails while packing away an entire box of macarons. I should probably take note from the French and practice that whole "eat in moderation" thing they're so well known for.

I'm not sure if Monsieur Hermes would approve of me using his fine silk scarves to cover my unwashed messy hair. But I'm thankful for beautiful accessories like these that turn any bad hair day into an excuse to wear head scarves.

Notice how the red light and red clock hands speak to each other? The best part was finding out that the clock was intentionally not working so the hands could remain in the vertical position. It's little details like this that reflect the true character of people and places.

There's something about walls covered in greenery that I just adore. They remind me of old palace grounds and fairy tales. I especially love how this building is an old warehouse and is as far removed from fairy tales as can be. Little things like this just brightens my day.

How adorable are these succulents! I think I may have found the perfect Christmas present. These little bag plants are original, unique and oh so lovely. I even feel inspired to try and diy these (which rarely ever happens when there's sewing involved).

Friday's Fancies: Happy Bastille Day

This week's Friday's Fancies is a little different, as you can probably tell from the lack of polaroids. Instead, being Bastille Day tomorrow, I thought I'd compile a collection of pictures that are quintessentially French. Enjoy and go forth to embrace your inner francophile.

The Shine Project

Before I sign off for the week, I just wanted to bring to your attention a neat little site called The Shine Project. They stock some really cute jewelry that are right on trend for the season. The best thing about these pieces, aside from the cuteness factor is that the proceeds goes towards sending at risk youths to college. Everyone deserves a good education, it's a sad reality that some of those who are most eager to learn simply do not get the chance. Fashion for a cause, what can be better than that? I look forward to receiving my bracelets.
