Wardrobe Diaries: The Art of Travel

Something you probably don't know about me is that I have an unhealthy obsession with anything related to the art of travel. This probably stems from the constant state of wanderlust that plagues me. I can spend hours pouring over atlases and travel guides, google earth and I are on first name basis. If I had my way my house would be filled with antique globes and world maps. But I digress.

I'm always curious as to what other people wear on planes. So much thought has to go into that one outfit. In an ideal world I would love to dress up like they once did during the 'golden' age of travel, but since I have two little monkeys it really isn't practical (or comfortable). My solution for long international flights- abundant layers for warmth, a rugged jacket to withstand the wear and tear from the kids, comfy but chic sweatpants, a large versatile scarf, some killer boots, sunnies and an oversized tote. These photos were taken right before the kids and I departed for Melbourne, Australia.

You are looking stunning in your travel outfit ! Yes, those were the days, when people used to wear a dress and hat and gloves and pearls while travelling- like Jacqueline Kennedy. But times have changed and you are looking no less ! You have made your own style statement. I love your over sized tote and the boots. The addition of the scarf and big sunnies are also enhancing the style quotient.
have a nice day !

I like the tank top. It depends on what time the flight is leaving. If it is at the crack of dawn, I just put on workout stuff. If it is later then I might take time to brush my hair, make-up, etc.

I remember when I was younger, people still got dressed up for travel. My first trip to Disney World when I was five consisted of my best dress and bonnet (and my WHOLE family was dressed similar too). People always look so lazy now when they travel, so I'm happy to see your gorgeous outfit. Stylish and comfortable!

The perfect airplane outfit IS tricky. I'm a big fan of the scarf. I also like to have shoes I can slip on and off easily for going through security. Have a safe flight!

Those sweatpants actually look chic! I've always wanted to wear sweats on the plane but it would look like I just rolled out of bed. So I usually end up wearing jeans and lots of layers on top. You still look stylish even in sweatpants!

I am loving this travel outfit. I am so boring when I travel, usually a hoodie and a yoga pants.

I often think about traveling and what I'd wear for a long flight too!
Aha, especially since it seems possible mom and I may go to the Philippines this Christmas. I think I'm going to hunt down this exact pair of sweatpants you rocked, because those are just...well, perfect! They're comfy sweats but dang if they don't actually look good. Especially the way you styled them. I'm finding so many outfits are improved just by slipping on a denim jacket :)

I don't travel much, although I wish I could! This outfit is perfect, totally cute but very functional!

I'm obsessed with travel also, every time a trip ends I'm already planning the next one lol. For long trip I usually make sure I have some sort of scarf and comfy cardigan and of course sunglasses if its an overnight flight.

You are seriously so chic when traveling!! You don't even want to see me on a flight!! I'm in yoga pants and tons of layers also..but my hair is a big mess and I just look horrible. I always want to be one of those people who dresses well on a flight, but it just never works out. Seriously, you're my travel icon. :)

Love your look. If ever I have the chance to travel far i think i will completely do the same. I love the look of the golden age travelers, very sophisticated, right? But i really admire you travel with two kids.

I think you must be the chicest traveler I know Jenee. I love your idea of chic sweatpants with booties, and how great is your retro camp beverly hills sweatshirt! I wear the same color lipstick--that's about as far as the similarities go. I really have to improve my travel wardrobe...it tends to be so impractical. So glad to hear you're having fun. I am envious--would love to be on vacation right now!

Hope you had a great trip! I love your airport style. I definitely do the same thing. I always layer. Our international flight a couple of years back, I would have gotten a slap on the wrist. I wore tennis shoes, warm up pants, sweat shirt and a zipper sweater over it. I just wanted to cuddle with my pillow and sleep! Haha!

Very chic outfit! You've probably seen my travel outfit which looks fairly similar. I love my sweatpants which if disguised properly don't look like one. The only difference is I can't really walk in heels so I tend to stick to either flats or no more than 1.5" heels/sandals.
